Founded in 1885 as a mining camp, Dunton faced isolation until the arrival of the Rio Grande Southern railway in 1891. The town flourished with the development of the Emma Mine, peaking at nearly 300 residents by 1905. However, like many mining towns, Dunton declined, becoming deserted by 1918.
In 1994, the current owners embarked on a seven-year restoration project, infusing sustainability into every aspect of the resort.
The springs boast a unique blend of calcium bicarbonate, dissolved iron and manganese, and a touch of lithium, promoting circulation and healthy skin. Guests can enjoy five water experiences, from the restored 19th-century Bathhouse to the serene Well House cabin.
Outdoor activities include horseback riding, fly fishing, hiking, mountain biking, mountaineering, rock climbing, guided trail rides, rafting, and archaeological day tours.
The spa offers natural treatments in tranquil surroundings, including hot stone massages, body scrubs, facials, and 60-minute meditation and yoga sessions, fostering profound well-being.
