There are people you meet who seem to carry their own weather with them — a kind of light that walks into a room ahead of them. Jetteke is one of those people.
We had the honor of meeting her at Mandali, the beautiful retreat on the shores of Lake Orta in Italy, during one of our editorial visits this year. It was hard not to notice her — not just for her striking, effortless beauty, but for the sheer aliveness she brings into a conversation, and a laugh that seems to arrive from somewhere genuinely joyful. It became obvious very quickly why people are drawn to her, and to the project she has built.
That project is Moonsisters — and at its heart, the Moon Calendar, a beautifully made guide to living in rhythm with the lunar cycle. Before any of this, Jetteke spent decades at the center of the fashion world: Vogue, Max Mara, Alaïa, an ambassador role with Chanel. Not, on the surface, the résumé you’d expect to lead to astrology and moon wisdom. But as she tells it, a single overnight stop in the Jura region of France — among biodynamic winemakers who had never stopped working by the lunar calendar — changed the direction of her life almost overnight.
In our conversation, Jetteke took us back to that night in the Jura, her own relationship with astrology, what really goes into a page of the Moon Calendar, why a printed calendar still matters in a world of astrology apps, and what she’d tell her younger self about where this journey would lead.
We left feeling genuinely honored to have sat with her — and we think you’ll feel the same reading it. Here is our full conversation with Jetteke, founder of Moonsisters.
Interview by Frank Roller, Places of Healing
POH: Let’s start at the very beginning — take us back to that visit to the Jura region in France. What did you actually see or experience there that made you realize lunar wisdom was still alive in people’s daily lives?
Jetteke: We live life forwards, but we understand it backwards.
It all started during a single night’s stop in the Jura, breaking up the drive from the south of France back to the Netherlands.
Looking back, that moment in the Jura was my wake-up call. It was the moment the idea for Moon Calendar was born, a quiet realization that perhaps there was an ancient wisdom we had never really lost, but simply stopped listening to.
What struck me most during my time in the Jura was how deeply connected people were to the natural world, without making it feel complicated or unusual. It is such a down-to-earth region, filled with real farmers making natural wines and beautiful cheeses, working closely with the land.
What fascinated me was hearing them say, almost casually, “This is simply how we work. We have never moved away from the lunar calendar. We work with the cycles of nature to create the best possible products.”
I had never really understood the depth of biodynamic farming before that moment. Realizing how much they observed and respected the influence of the moon — and how naturally it was woven into their everyday lives — was a real wake-up call for me.
It felt almost like a lightning strike: I was deeply moved, surprised, and suddenly incredibly curious. I wanted to understand more. And that curiosity, quite literally, became the beginning of this journey.
POH: Your entire career before Moonsisters was in fashion — Vogue, Max Mara, Alaïa, an ambassador role with Chanel. What was it about that moment in Jura that made you want to leave the world you knew and step into astrology and the moon?
Jetteke: I never really left the world of fashion, and I don’t think I ever wanted to. I still deeply love craftsmanship, creativity, beauty and vision. Those things have always made me incredibly happy. What has changed is how I choose to spend my time.
Today, much more of my energy goes into the Moon Calendar and into exploring this ancient knowledge that fascinates me so deeply. To me, it is not about leaving one world behind and entering another. It is about discovering something that brings us back to our essence, and, ultimately, to the best version of ourselves.
When we begin to move with the cycles of life, to attune ourselves to the rhythms of the cosmos and to Mother Earth, something shifts. I’ve experienced that personally, and it has brought me so much. What I love now is sharing that knowledge and seeing how it can help other people feel more connected, grounded and empowered in their own lives.
And then there is the aesthetic side of Moon Calendar, which is very much rooted in where I come from. I spent years creating magazines, shaping stories and producing beautiful shoots around the world, working with extraordinary fashion houses. I have always believed in making things beautiful.
So, in a way, it still feels completely like me. The focus has evolved, my time is divided differently, but the love for beauty, creativity and craftsmanship is still exactly the same. I simply found another layer of meaning that I wanted to bring into the world.
POH: Had astrology always been part of your life in some quiet way, even while you were deep in fashion? Or did it genuinely arrive as a surprise, a calling you hadn’t expected?
Jetteke: Long before I understood astrology, I was fascinated by it.
Even as a little girl, I was drawn to the idea that the stars and planets might somehow tell us something about who we are. I didn’t know how deep it went, and I certainly didn’t have anyone around me who could guide me into it. It was simply a quiet curiosity that stayed with me.
It was only much later that I discovered just how precise and profound astrology can be. The exact moment you are born — the time, the place, the position of the planets — creates something almost like a unique fingerprint. A map that can reveal so much about your character, your natural strengths, your life path, and what you might be here to explore and become. In a way, astrology reads you.
And the more I learned, the more I realised how far removed it was from the vague or “woo-woo” world I had once imagined. There is an extraordinary depth of ancient knowledge and precision behind it.
POH: Tell us about your own relationship with astrology today. Did you study it formally, do you work closely with an astrologer on the calendar’s content, or has it become something more intuitive for you over the years?
Jetteke: My relationship with astrology today is very much one of deep curiosity and respect. I have never formally studied astrology myself, and I actually feel very strongly that it is important to know where your own expertise ends.
For the Moon Calendar, I work with professional astrologers and intuitives who have dedicated years to studying and understanding these subjects. I believe in letting specialists do what they do best. There is a Dutch saying: “Stick to your own craft.” And I really believe in that.
My role is to be the bridge. I have the vision for what I want the Moon Calendar to communicate and how I want people to experience it — and then I have an incredible team of specialists who translate that vision into the right content, with depth, accuracy and quality.
For me, that combination is what makes the calendar so special: my instinct and vision, brought together with the knowledge and expertise of people who have truly dedicated their lives to this ancient wisdom.
POH: What actually goes into a single page of the calendar — the affirmations, the rituals, the writing exercises? How do you translate something as vast as “the moon’s energy” into a daily insight someone can actually use?
Jetteke: Every page of the Moon Calendar is an invitation to pause, reflect and reconnect with yourself.
I believe simple practices like writing, gratitude and affirmations can genuinely shift the way we experience life, and there is beautiful research behind many of them.
We bring those practices together with the rhythms of the moon and the cosmos, with our professional astrologers guiding the weekly insights.
For me, it’s about making ancient wisdom feel relevant and accessible, and giving you a little moment each day to pause, listen and reconnect with yourself.
POH: You’ve collaborated with brands like Chanel, goop, Tata Harper, to mention a few. What do those partnerships tend to look like, and what do you think drew names like that to Moonsisters specifically?
Jetteke: I think what attracts these beautiful brands like Chanel, Tata Harper and goop to Moon Sisters is that we share the same way of looking at life. They are very much in tune with what people are looking for today — self-development, wellbeing and meaning, but in a beautiful and elevated way.
It doesn’t have to feel overly spiritual or complicated. You can be running your business, building your career, living your everyday life, and simply take a few minutes each day for something that brings you back to yourself and puts you in your power.
I think that combination is what resonates: it’s chic, light and accessible, but there is real depth and quality behind it. The collaborations can take many forms, but they always feel very natural because the values and aesthetics are so aligned.
POH: We’re living in a moment where anyone can open an app and get astrology insights pushed to their phone daily, sometimes hourly. Why do you think a printed, physical calendar still has a place — maybe even a growing one — in a world that’s gone almost entirely digital?
Jetteke: I think that’s exactly why the physical calendar feels so special. It gives you a moment to pause, away from the screen, and it’s also something beautiful to have in your home.
People write in it, reflect, and over time it almost becomes a diary — a reflection of where they are in their lives. So it becomes much more than a calendar. It doesn’t just tell you what day it is — it reminds you to be present in it.
POH: Share a personal story with us — a moment where living by the Moon Calendar directly shaped a decision, a project, or an occasion in your own life.
Jetteke: I’ve become very conscious of moving with the cosmic rhythm, without letting it dictate my life. For example, I avoid signing important contracts during eclipse seasons or Mercury retrograde when I can. I use the New Moon to set intentions and the Full Moon to reflect, release and close chapters. It has taught me to slow down, trust more and not force everything. I’ve been living this way for years now, and I really feel I’m reaping the benefits. The more I move with the rhythm, the less I feel I have to control the outcome.
POH: Looking ahead, where do you see Moonsisters going next? Are there new formats, new rituals, or new ways of bringing this lunar wisdom into people’s lives beyond the calendar itself?
Jetteke: Looking ahead, I feel there is so much more to explore. I would love to continue creating beautiful collaborations with like-minded brands, and to see the Moon Calendar travel much further into the world.
It is already available in Dutch, English and German, but I dream of bringing it to French, Spanish and many more languages — making this ancient wisdom accessible to people everywhere. Because ultimately, my vision is bigger than a calendar. It is about reconnecting people with something we have always carried within us: an ancient understanding of nature, cycles and ourselves. To bring that wisdom back into the modern world — beautifully, simply, and in a way that helps people come home to themselves.
POH: The name “Moonsisters” suggests something communal — a kind of sisterhood built around the moon. What does that word mean to you, and how do you see it showing up in the community you’ve built?
Jetteke: To me, Moon Sisters is really about connection — with yourself, with nature, with the moon, and with each other.
The name comes from the idea of sisterhood and the feminine energy we all carry within us. But I love that the community has grown far beyond women. We have so many men who connect with the Moon Calendar too, because ultimately, we all carry both feminine and masculine energy.
POH: For someone who has never paid attention to the moon’s phases before — who’s curious but doesn’t know where to start — what would you tell them is the simplest, smallest way to begin living with the lunar cycle?
Jetteke: I would say: start very simply, just become aware of the moon.
The lunar cycle begins with the New Moon, when the moon is not illuminated from our perspective. Think of this as a moment to plant your seeds: set an intention, an idea, or something you would like to create. Over the following two weeks, the moon grows towards the Full Moon. This is a beautiful moment to pause, reflect and see what has come to light. Then the moon begins to wane. This is the phase of letting go — clearing, releasing and making space for the next cycle.
So you don’t have to change your whole life. Just start looking up. Notice where the moon is, and let it become a little rhythm in your life.
POH: You’ve said the moon reminds us that no matter what phase we’re in, we are always whole. What do you wish more people understood about the actual power of the moon — beyond the aesthetics, beyond the trend?
Jetteke: I think the deeper power of the moon is that it teaches us that every phase is part of the whole. Even when the moon is not illuminated, it is still completely there. And I think we are the same. We don’t have to hide our darker or more difficult parts — our emotions, our doubts, our vulnerability. When we learn to embrace and integrate those parts of ourselves, we feel more whole. The moon reminds us that we don’t become whole by hiding our shadows, but by learning to hold them too.
POH: If you could hand your younger self, still working in fashion and not yet imagining any of this, one sentence about where this journey would eventually lead — what would you say?
Jetteke: “Trust the timing, slow down, and enjoy where you are — what is meant for you will find you when the time is right.”
POH: Thank you for this wonderful story – and good luck with many more moon phases coming up.
